Disability Benefits Questionnaires

Three new disability benefits questionnaires are available to physicians of Veterans applying for disability compensation benefits for chronic B-cell leukemias, ischemic heart disease, and Parkinson’s disease. These are the first of 79 new disability benefits forms that will help guide Veteran’s physicians in evaluating the most frequent medical conditions affecting Veterans. VA is undergoing a major reform to streamline the claims process for injured or ill Veterans and to eliminate the disability claims backlog.

Vietnam Veterans’ Health Issues Resources

VA’s Veterans Health Initiative independent study guide provides clinicians with valuable information on Agent Orange and effects on Veterans’ health. In addition, the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine has reviewed and continues to evaluate all relevant scientific literature and to provide advice to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on health effects of herbicides exposure:

  This independent study guide was developed to provide a background for VA health care providers on the unique health issues and concerns of Veterans of the Vietnam War.
• Institute of Medicine Committee Reports on Vietnam Veterans and Agent Orange
  

  VA contracts with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences, a non-governmental organization, to scientifically review evidence on the long-term health effects of Agent Orange and other herbicides on Vietnam Veterans.
