SARS Working Group
The purpose of the SARS Working Group is to help
the Office of Public Health and Environmental
Hazards identify important public health, policy,
program, resource, implementation and tracking
issues which VHA will need to address vis-à-vis SARS.
SARS Working Group Subgroups
Laboratory Issues Subgroup
Purpose: to develop guidance on appropriate use
of diagnostics for ruling in/out SARS Leaders: Mr.
Brophy, Dr. Roselle, and Dr. Holodniy
Personal Protective Equipment and Respiratory
Protection Program
Purpose: to elaborate the operational and
educational programs needed to be in place
Leaders: Mr. Wilkes, Dr. Hodgson, Mr. Bierenbaum,
Mss. Hirsch, Ms. Duller, Ms. Johnson
SARS Education Plan
Purpose: to develop a plan for education about
SARS related issues for various groups of VA
employees and patients
Leaders: Ms. Davey, Ms. Fox, Ms. Raab, Ms. Wells
SARS Communication Plan
Purpose: to develop risk communications plans for
SARS appropriate for medical facilities and VA
leadership
Leaders: Ms. Raab, Dr. Mather, Dr. Deyton.
Exposed Employee Tracking and Leave Policy
Purpose: to develop exposed tracking and leave
policy
Leaders: Dr. Hodgson with input from various members
of this Working Group and others
Influenza Vaccination Campaign
Purpose: to develop and implement the operational
and educational program to help reduce respiratory
infections that may be confused with SARS
Leaders: Dr. Roselle, Dr. Yevich, Mr. Cowles, Ms.
