Understanding and Promoting Collaboration to Strengthen Hospital Resilience

Project Lead: Deborah D. Riopelle, M.S.P.H.

Effective disaster preparedness and response needs to be a community effort. Consequently, VA and other federal agencies are working with community-based organizations to form collaborative partnerships that strengthen the cities and towns in which Veterans live.

The goal of this project is to assess the nature and scope of these collaborations between VA medical centers (VAMCs) and non-VA organizations and agencies. The project focuses on understanding:

  • Range of organizations with which VAMCs partner
  • How they partner
  • Benefits of and barriers to working together

Findings and importance

Findings will guide the development of tools and processes that can strengthen these collaborations, and thereby build more resilient communities.
