Seasonal Influenza (Flu)

 Flu virus
Flu Virus

Influenza (“flu”) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses.

Seasonal flu is different from H1N1 flu (previously swine flu). For more information about H1N1 flu go to http://www.publichealth.va.gov/h1n1flu/.

Each year a flu vaccine (flu shot or nasal spray) is made that works well to stop the spread of seasonal flu. Getting vaccinated each year is the best way to protect yourself.  This year there are two vaccines: one for seasonal flu and one for H1N1 flu.  Learn more about flu vaccination.
